What's included in a Star X managed IT plan

Every plan covers the work that keeps an office running and secure. We agree the exact scope in writing before you start.

  • Help desk for your staff. Phone, email and remote support, plus on-site visits when needed.
  • Monitoring and alerts. We watch servers, firewalls and key computers around the clock and act on warnings before they become outages.
  • Patching. Windows, macOS and common business apps updated on a schedule, with reboots outside working hours.
  • Endpoint protection. Managed antivirus/EDR on every computer, reviewed by a person, not just installed.
  • Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace admin. New users, licences, shared mailboxes, permissions and security settings.
  • Backup monitoring and test restores. We check backups daily and run restore tests, so you know they work.
  • Network, Wi-Fi and firewall management. Configuration, firmware updates and troubleshooting.
  • Vendor management. We deal with your internet provider, phone company, printer leasing company and software vendors for you.
  • Staff onboarding and offboarding. Accounts, laptops and access set up on day one and removed on the last day.
  • Documentation and IT planning. An up-to-date record of your systems, plus regular reviews of upcoming renewals, risks and budget.

Billed separately, quoted up front

New hardware and software licences, and larger projects such as office moves, server replacements or cloud migrations. You approve a written quote before any project work starts.

Prefer to pay per job?

If your office only needs occasional help, our on-demand IT help desk has no contract and no retainer. You pay per task, only when we work.

How we take over your IT

Switching IT providers shouldn't cause downtime. This is the process we follow with every new client.

  1. Free IT assessmentWe review your computers, network, Microsoft 365 or Google accounts, backups and security. You get a short written report and a fixed monthly quote.
  2. StabilizeWe fix the urgent gaps first: missing MFA, unpatched computers, backups that don't run, unknown admin passwords. We document everything as we go.
  3. Hand-over from your old providerWe collect admin credentials, licences and vendor contacts. If your previous IT company is unresponsive, we recover access through the vendors.
  4. Ongoing support and reviewsDay-to-day help desk, monitoring and patching, plus planning reviews so renewals and hardware replacements never come as a surprise.

Is managed IT right for your business?

A managed plan usually makes sense when:

  • You have roughly 5 to 100 staff who rely on computers every day.
  • Nobody on your team "owns" IT, or the person who does has another full-time job.
  • Your cyber insurance application asks about MFA, endpoint protection and tested backups.
  • You've had a recent outage, data loss or phishing incident.
  • You want a fixed monthly IT cost instead of unpredictable invoices.

We support offices across Richmond, from City Centre and Aberdeen to the industrial parks in Bridgeport, Riverside and Mitchell Island, and across Delta, including Tilbury and Annacis Island. Our technicians live locally, which keeps on-site response short.

Typical client setups we manage

  • 10–40 Windows laptops on Microsoft 365
  • An on-site file or accounting server, or a move away from one
  • Firewall, switches and business Wi-Fi
  • Line-of-business software such as accounting, ERP or practice management
  • Remote staff connecting from home

What are managed IT services?

Managed IT services means outsourcing the day-to-day running of your IT to a specialist company for a monthly fee. The provider monitors and maintains your computers, servers, network, cloud accounts and backups, supports your staff, and plans upgrades with you, so you don't need a full-time IT employee.

How much do managed IT services cost in Richmond?

The monthly fee depends on how many users, computers and servers you have and how much on-site work you need. We give you a fixed monthly quote after a free IT assessment. If a monthly plan doesn't make sense for your office, our pay-per-job help desk is the alternative.

Is on-site support included?

Yes. Remote support fixes most issues fastest, but when a problem needs hands on the equipment, a local technician comes to your office in Richmond, Delta or elsewhere in Metro Vancouver.

Can you check our network before we sign anything?

Yes. We can review your network, hardware and security under an NDA before you commit. You get a written summary of what we found, whether or not you hire us.

Do we have to sign a long-term contract?

No. Plans are month-to-month or annual. Annual plans cost less per month.

We already have an IT person. Can you still help?

Yes. Co-managed IT gives your IT person backup for vacations, sick days and big projects, plus tools like monitoring and security that are expensive to run alone. See our co-managed and temporary IT page.
